Murcia, Spain experiences 4.1 magnitude earthquake

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck the Murcia region of southern Spain on 2 August 2026. The tremor was recorded by Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN) at 11:59 a.m., with its epicentre in the town of Librilla at a depth of about three miles. The quake was felt in nearby holiday destinations including Alicante, Benidorm and Albacete.

Emergency services received more than 80 calls, but no personal injuries or material damage have been reported. The event is the strongest seismic activity in the area in six months, following a series of smaller tremors earlier in the month. Authorities note that the region sits on the northern edge of the Eurasian‑African plate collision zone, which makes southern Spain prone to earthquakes.
