Murderer of UK student Henry Nowak files appeal against life sentence

Vickrum Digwa, a 23‑year‑old convicted of murdering 18‑year‑old finance student Henry Nowak in Southampton, has lodged an appeal with the Court of Appeal seeking to overturn his conviction and reduce his life‑sentence minimum of 21 years. The appeal follows a request by prosecutor Ellie Reeves under the Unduly Lenient Sentences scheme to reconsider the sentence.

The case has attracted heightened scrutiny of police conduct after video footage showed Nowak handcuffed and left to bleed without assistance. Two officers are under investigation for alleged serious misconduct, and Digwa’s mother is expected to attend a hearing on July 17. Additionally, Kiran Kaur was convicted for helping hide the ceremonial blade used in the attack.
