Museo Interactivo Mirador launches astronomy exhibition in Valparaíso

The Museo Interactivo Mirador (MIM) has launched the itinerant exhibition ‘Chile Astronómico’ at the Duoc UC Valparaíso campus. The free exhibition, which runs until September 26, focuses on the history of Chile’s earliest observatories.

A central theme of the display is the legacy of the Valparaíso Observatory, established in 1843 on Cordillera Hill. During a period of intense commercial and scientific activity in the Pacific, the observatory played a vital role in timekeeping and maritime navigation.

Using three-dimensional models, the exhibition aims to demonstrate that Chile’s astronomical tradition predates the modern international observatories currently located in the Atacama Desert. The initiative seeks to promote scientific interest among children and families.
