Museo Interactivo Mirador astronomy exhibitions

Overview

The Museo Interactivo Mirador (MIM) has launched a series of itinerant astronomy exhibitions across Chile.

In early August, the MIM opened a free interactive exhibition titled ‘Travesía Solar: descubriendo nuestro sistema planetario’ at the Museo Nacional Ferroviario Pablo Neruda in Temuco. Running until August 23, the display features 11 hands-on modules and graphic panels covering the solar system, including planets, comets, and the Voyager missions. Coordinator Sergio Vásquez noted the exhibit allows visitors to “discover interactively how gravity originates.”

Following this, the MIM launched the ‘Chile Astronómico’ exhibition at the Duoc UC Valparaíso campus. Running until September 26, this exhibition focuses on the history of Chile’s early observatories, specifically the legacy of the Valparaíso Observatory established in 1843. Through three-dimensional models, the program aims to demonstrate that Chile’s astronomical tradition predates modern international observatories in the Atacama Desert.
