Museu de Ciências da Terra brings prehistoric exhibition to Morro da Urca

The Morro da Urca in Rio de Janeiro will host a prehistoric-themed exhibition titled ‘A Aventura Pré-Histórica’ from October 5 to 18. The event features items from the collection of the Museu de Ciências da Terra (MCTer), an institution linked to the Serviço Geológico do Brasil (SGB) that holds one of the most significant geological collections in Latin America.

Because the MCTer’s historic building is currently closed for renovations, the museum is utilizing an itinerant program to maintain public access to its fossils, rocks, minerals, and meteorites. This initiative is being conducted through a partnership with Parque Bondinho.

Special programming is scheduled for Children's Day on October 12 via the SGBeduca program. Activities for children include a fossil replica scavenger hunt in a prepared excavation site, origami workshops, dinosaur races, and a fossil laboratory where visitors can use magnifying glasses to examine teeth, bones, and footprints.
