Museum of Byzantine Culture hosts tours on Saint Demetrios

The Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki has announced the third thematic section of its tour series, titled ‘An Exhibit Tells a Story’. This specific series focuses on Saint Demetrios, the patron saint of Thessaloniki.

Through selected items from the museum's permanent collections, including icons, coins, and seals, the tours will explore the life and martyrdom of the saint, the decoration of his temple in Thessaloniki, and the spread of his veneration throughout the Byzantine world. Each session will be preceded by a short film titled ‘The City, the Oikoumene, and the Saint’ at the Melina Mercouri amphitheater.

The guided tours are scheduled for September 30, October 14, November 18, December 3, and December 17, 2026, all starting at 12:00. Each tour lasts 60 minutes and is limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Participation requires a standard museum entry ticket.
