Saint Demetrios commemorations in Thessaloniki

Overview

The Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki announced a thematic tour series titled ‘An Exhibit Tells a Story’, focusing on the life and martyrdom of Saint Demetrios, the city’s patron saint. The tours utilize items such as icons, coins, and seals from the museum’s permanent collections.

Following these educational initiatives, formal festivities honoring Saint Demetrios are scheduled to begin on October 14. These celebrations include a procession to welcome the Holy Icon of Panagia Chozoviotissa from Amorgos, accompanied by religious services such as Vespers and a vigil. The program of celebrations is set to continue through November 1.
