Poland mushroom foraging season peaks across several regions
The mushroom foraging season is in full swing across Poland, driven by favorable weather conditions following recent rainfall. Reports indicate significant yields of porcini (boletus edulis) and other species in several regions, including the Łódź, Świętokrzyskie, and Podkarpackie voivodeships. In Lower Silesia, a particularly strong season for colorful boletes has been noted due to recent heavy rains.
As foraging becomes a major national hobby, with over 50% of Poles participating, a trend toward mushroom-related tourism is emerging. This includes weekend trips involving overnight stays and organized culinary experiences.
Experts advise caution during the peak September and October period. While many species like the saffron milk cap (Lactarius deliciosus) are highly valued, mycologists warn against overconsumption of certain mushrooms, such as the Tricholoma equestre, which has been classified as toxic in France due to potential health risks associated with eating very large quantities.
