Musimundo operator CARSA S.A. declared bankrupt by court
A court in Resistencia, Chaco, has decreed the bankruptcy of CARSA S.A., the company operating the Musimundo appliance chain. Judge Fernando Luis Lavenas revoked the company's preventive reorganization process, citing a state of insolvency and the lack of viable commercial operations or inventory to sustain restructuring.
The bankruptcy follows the closure of 20 branches across the Argentine northeast, including the provinces of Chaco, Formosa, Corrientes, and Misiones. These closures, often targeting duplicate locations, have reportedly left more than 100 workers unemployed. Employees have raised concerns regarding the sudden nature of the dismissals, which were often communicated verbally, and have reported unpaid salaries for August.
CARSA S.A. faces a massive debt, with a bankruptcy claim estimated at 63.5 billion pesos. The company had previously sought reorganization in 2018. Attempts to sell the chain to the owners of On City were unsuccessful, accelerating the company's financial collapse.
