Musimundo operator CARSA S.A. declared bankrupt
Overview
The appliance retailer Musimundo, operated by CARSA S.A., is undergoing a significant contraction across Northeast Argentina, specifically in the provinces of Chaco, Formosa, Corrientes, and Misiones. The company is currently in a preventive bankruptcy process (concurso preventivo) to restructure debts exceeding 63.5 billion pesos, citing high operational costs, the rise of e-commerce, and declining domestic consumption.
Reports indicate the closure of approximately 20 branches, affecting more than 100 workers, with some estimates suggesting the number of layoffs may exceed 120. In provinces such as Corrientes, Chaco, and Misiones, multiple locations have ceased operations. Employees have reported receiving verbal dismissal notices at the end of shifts before formal legal documentation. There are ongoing disputes regarding unpaid August salaries and the payment of legal indemnities. Some staff members indicated they were previously led to believe their positions would be transferred to a new owner following unsuccessful sale negotiations.
On September 2, 2026, the Civil and Commercial Court No. 23 of Resistencia, Chaco, officially decreed the bankruptcy of CARSA S.A. Judge Fernando Luis Lavenas revoked the company’s previous preventive reorganization process, ruling that the firm no longer possesses the “inventory, operational establishments, or commercial income necessary to sustain a restructuring.”
New details reveal the scale of the insolvency includes approximately 3.06 billion pesos in bank liabilities, with Banco Nación identified as a primary creditor holding a debt of about 1.549 billion pesos. The court has ordered the immediate seizure of assets and documents to begin the liquidation process. This collapse follows unsuccessful attempts to sell the chain to the owners of On City.
