AK Party officials outline ‘Terror-free Turkey’ law and political roadmap

AK Party officials are detailing the framework for the ‘Terörsüz Türkiye’ (Terror-free Turkey) law and discussing future political developments. Mustafa Elitaş, AK Party Deputy Chairman, explained that the proposed law is conditional: terrorist organizations such as the PKK, KCK, YPG, SDG, and PYD must formally dissolve and verify the laying down of arms. This process will be evaluated by a committee led by the Vice President and submitted to the National Security Council. If the conditions are met and published in the Official Gazette, individuals involved in terrorism propaganda or assistance may apply for benefits within six months. However, Elitaş emphasized that leaders and those who ordered killings or caused the martyrdom of soldiers and citizens—specifically mentioning figures in Imrali and Kandil—will be strictly excluded from these benefits.

In separate meetings, AK Party Deputy Chairman and Election Affairs President Ali İhsan Yavuz addressed constitutional reform and the upcoming election cycle. Yavuz stated that the party has completed preparations for a new, democratic constitution through a 10-person commission. Regarding elections, he noted that while the normal schedule is May 2028, the party is open to an earlier date if necessary. Yavuz also expressed his anticipation that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will run for re-election in the next cycle.
