Turkey implements nationwide security measures for schools and dormitories

Turkish authorities have launched a comprehensive security initiative for schools and student dormitories ahead of the 2026-2027 academic year. In a high-level coordination meeting involving the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, officials met with governors from 81 provinces via video conference to establish a roadmap for student safety.

Key measures include risk-based security planning for university campuses and dormitories, increased narcotics and public order inspections, and enhanced monitoring of school surroundings. Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi emphasized the need for heightened vigilance to prevent a recurrence of past incidents in regions like Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş. Additionally, specialized training will be provided to private security personnel working in educational institutions.

In Samsun, specific preparations include the deployment of 527 school yard attendants and the integration of 91 schools into the City Security Management System (KGYS). Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Education addressed the implementation of designated prayer areas in schools, stating the goal is to reduce security risks associated with students leaving campus for Friday prayers while preventing instructional time loss.
