Mustafe Mohamud Omar begins second term as Somali Region President

Mustafe Mohamud Omar has begun a second term as President of the Somali Regional State, following his swearing-in and the immediate inauguration of his cabinet. The new administration includes a mix of returning officials, providing institutional continuity, and new appointees intended to bring fresh perspectives to regional governance.

Following the reelection of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, President Mustafe issued a congratulatory message praising the Prime Minister’s leadership. Mustafe noted that Abiy’s administration has helped transition the region from a period of conflict and repression toward greater stability, political freedom, and economic development. He specifically highlighted progress in federalism, religious freedom, and national initiatives such as the Green Legacy tree-planting campaign and security-sector reforms.
