Mutares to Acquire Stellantis' Free2move Carsharing Business
Mutares, a German private‑equity firm, has agreed to purchase the entire car‑sharing operation of Stellantis' Free2move brand. The transaction covers Free2move’s fleet in 14 European and U.S. cities and is expected to close by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approvals and employee consultations.
Stellantis says the sale fits its FaSTLane 2030 strategy by allowing a stronger focus on core automotive activities and reallocating capital to higher‑return areas. Mutares plans to run Free2move as an independent unit, restructure the international fleet, accelerate the shift to battery‑electric vehicles and enhance the customer experience, creating a new mobility platform.
Mutares also announced its upcoming half‑year report for August 4 and an earnings call on August 18, highlighting the Free2move acquisition alongside recent portfolio moves such as the sale of Walor Precision Turning, Redo Oy and the NEM Energy Group to Hyundai Heavy Industries.
