México Canta music competition holds grand final in Mexico City
The binational music competition ‘México Canta’ is approaching its grand final, scheduled for Sunday, September 13, at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. The event, supported by the Secretaría de Cultura and the Consejo Mexicano de la Música (CMM), features eight finalists from various regions of Mexico and the United States.
Claudia Curiel de Icaza, the Secretary of Culture, stated that the initiative is not designed to create commercial stars, but rather to strengthen cultural identity, showcase regional artistic richness, and provide valuable content for public media. She emphasized that the project serves as a tool for social cohesion and a means to amplify Mexico's cultural message globally.
The final will include performances by special guests such as Majo Aguilar and La Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga. The three winners will be selected through real-time public voting and will perform at the Zócalo in Mexico City on September 15 as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
