Mexico 2026 cultural music competitions

Overview

In July 2026 the Secretariat of Culture announced the twelve Entornos Sonoros 2026 sound‑art projects selected from 296 submissions, awarding monetary prizes and adding the works to the National Sound Archive. The same week the venue Taberna Malasaña in Saltillo opened registration for the "Presea Malasaña Mejor Banda 2026" contest, a local band competition offering more than 60,000 pesos and a ten‑week series of live performances for twenty selected groups.

The binational Mexico Canta contest, aimed at Mexican and Mexican‑American youth, opened registration on 11 May and closed on 10 June, drawing 16,289 entrants (10,528 from Mexico, 5,761 from the United States). President Claudia Sheinbaum and Culture Secretary Claudia Curiel de Icaza presented the seven U.S. semifinalists on 23 July, emphasizing the event’s role in cultural identity, peace promotion and addiction prevention.

On 7 August the Secretariat unveiled the 14 semifinalists – seven from Mexico (including Isabel Piñeyro Acuña “Belle La Malixita”, Grecia Delgado, Fátima Cuevas, José Emiliano Macías, Bilhan Israel Morales, Luna Jiram López, Bryan Soto “Clave 57”) and seven from U.S. Mexican communities (Grecia Marín, Daniel Ochoa, Tiffany Galaviz, Miranda González “Miranda Knappe”, Joshua Soto, Lizandro Espinoza, Rosalba Valdez).
