The binational music competition “México Canta por la paz y contra las adicciones 2026” has concluded. The competition sought to strengthen cultural identity and serve as a tool for social cohesion rather than simply to “create commercial stars,” according to Secretary of Culture Claudia Curiel de Icaza.
Three winners were selected through real-time public voting: Bryan Soto from Valle de Chalco, Mexico, with his composition “Labios de cereza”; Tiffany Galaviz from Glendale, California, performing “Cosa fina de mi país”; and Lizandro Espinoza from Portland, Oregon, presenting “Pena de la buena”. The winners earned contracts to record professional albums and performed at the Zócalo in Mexico City on 15 September as part of the national Independence Day celebrations.
