Mykonos: 23-year-old arrested following sexual assault allegation

Police in Mykonos have arrested a 23-year-old Kosovar national following an allegation of sexual assault by an 18-year-old Italian tourist. The incident reportedly occurred at a well-known beach bar on the evening of August 17.

The victim stated to authorities that she had consumed a large amount of alcohol and was in a state of heavy intoxication when she was approached while lying on a sunbed. She claims the man exploited her condition and engaged in sexual acts without her consent, despite her repeated refusals. Due to her intoxication, she reported having memory gaps regarding the duration and specific details of the encounter.

Following the report, police identified and apprehended the suspect at his place of residence on the island. He has been taken before the prosecutor in Syros. While the initial complaint was for rape, the defense attorney, Konstantinos Dokimakis, stated that the legal assessment has shifted, and the prosecution is now focused on indecent assault. The defense maintains that there was sexual interest rather than assault and points to camera footage and witness statements to contest the allegations.
