Mytilene political group proposes 3,000 euro birth grants

The political group ‘New Action New Municipality’ has submitted two social support proposals to the Municipal Authority of Mytilene. The group is calling for the immediate implementation of these measures to assist citizens during the current economic climate.

The first proposal requests a one-time financial grant of up to 3,000 euros for every new birth. The group notes that under the new Local Government Code (Law 5314/2026), municipalities now have the explicit legal authority to provide such assistance to permanent residents and citizens. They argue this is a necessary step to combat demographic decline.

The second proposal advocates for the reduction or total exemption of municipal fees for vulnerable social groups. The group emphasizes that the legal framework for these actions is already in place and requires specific decisions from the Municipal Council to be enacted.
