Czech authorities investigate fatal drunk-driving crash and hospital fire

Police have upgraded the legal classification of a fatal accident near Doubravník involving a driver transporting five children. Blood tests revealed the driver had a blood alcohol content of over 3.1 promille. The crash, which resulted in the death of one child and injuries to five others, is now being investigated as both negligent homicide and endangering others under the influence of an addictive substance. The driver, a football coach, expressed regret but has not provided further statements.

In Prague, a fire broke out at the oncology center of Motol and Homolka hospitals. The building's cladding was affected, leading to the evacuation of 14 patients and six staff members. While the fire was quickly extinguished and did not reach the interior of the building, patients were relocated to other facilities. Hospital officials clarified that a patient death reported around the same time was unrelated to the fire.

Additionally, nationwide safety inspections of nightlife venues in the Czech Republic have revealed significant hazards. Following a directive from the Ministry of the Interior, authorities inspected 729 bars, clubs, and wineries. The inspections uncovered 2,381 deficiencies, including non-functional fire extinguishers and blocked emergency exits, resulting in over 5.5 million CZK in fines.
