NABU and LBV launch public vote for 2027 Bird of the Year

The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) and the Bavarian State Association for Bird and Nature Conservation (LBV) have opened the public voting period for the 2027 Bird of the Year. This annual tradition, which has been held for over 50 years, allows the public to vote for one of five pre-selected species that represent specific conservation themes.

The five candidates for the 2027 title are the common raven, crane, house martin, European pied flycatcher, and dipper. Each species was chosen to highlight different environmental issues, such as the need for wetland protection for cranes or the impact of insect decline on insectivorous birds.

Voting is conducted online and will remain open until October 15 at 11:00 AM. The winner will be announced by NABU and LBV later that same day.
