NABU and LBV Bird of the Year 2027 voting

The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) and the Bavarian State Association for Bird and Nature Conservation (LBV) have initiated the public voting period for the 2027 Bird of the Year. This annual tradition, which has spanned over 50 years, allows citizens in Germany to vote online for one of five pre-selected species.

The candidates include the common raven, crane, house martin (or white wagtail), European pied flycatcher, and dipper. Each species was chosen to represent specific ecological themes and conservation challenges, such as the protection of wetlands for cranes, the importance of clean flowing waters for the dipper, or the impact of insect decline on insectivorous birds. The selection process aims to raise awareness regarding local biodiversity and habitat preservation.

Voting remains open until October 15, with the winner to be announced later that day.
