Nacional Monte de Piedad strike enters second year with 302 branches closed

Nacional Monte de Piedad has reached one year of a nationwide strike that has kept 302 branches closed since October 1, 2025. The labor dispute stems from disagreements between the institution and the National Union of Workers of Nacional Monte de Piedad regarding the interpretation and fulfillment of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Despite a February 2026 judicial ruling that declared the strike nonexistent, branches remain closed as the union has filed a review appeal. The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) has attempted to mediate through dozens of meetings, but no agreement has been reached.

To assist clients, the institution has maintained alternative digital channels for making payments, renewals, or liquidating loans. To prevent the loss of collateral, Monte de Piedad has modified its commercialization calendar. For items originally scheduled for public sale in October 2026, the deadline for payments or renewals has been extended to March 2027, providing customers several additional months to recover their belongings.
