Nadia Comăneci marks 50 years of perfect 10 with tributes to modern athletes

Romanian gymnastics legend Nadia Comăneci attended a series of events in Romania celebrating the 50th anniversary of her historic perfect‑10 score at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. During the ceremonies she highlighted how her achievement continues to inspire new generations of athletes.

Comăneci praised current stars such as U.S. gymnast Simone Biles, saying the modern champion “tries to reproduce what she did and is inspired by her grace.” She also referenced Romanian swimming prodigy David Popovici, noting his Olympic medals show “children that it is possible.” Other Romanian champions – tennis player Simona Halep, weightlifter Mihaela Cambei and more – were mentioned as examples of the lasting legacy of past performance.

The events, supported by Banca Transilvania, emphasized the cultural impact of Comăneci’s perfect score and its role in shaping Romanian sport identity.
