Nadia Comăneci’s 2026 Legacy Sparks Bench Vandalism and Flight Tribute in Romania

In the town of Onești, a bench installed as part of the "Year Nadia 2026" project "Drumul Perfecţiunii" was vandalised shortly after its inauguration. The inscription honoring gymnastics legend Nadia Comăneci was defaced with the words “By Dani Mocanu”, highlighting a clash between traditional sporting values and contemporary popular culture.

At the same time, Romanian airline TAROM commemorated the 50th anniversary of Comăneci’s first perfect 10 by renaming its Bucharest‑Paris flights 383 and 384 as RO10 and RO50 for 18 July 2026. The names will appear on tickets and flight displays. TAROM director Bogdan Costaș said the gesture “honours excellence, discipline and courage”, and Comăneci expressed her appreciation for the tribute.
