Nadia Comăneci’s Olympic Legacy Celebrated in New Book Collection
A new series of books explores the life and impact of Romanian gymnast Nadia Comăneci, whose historic perfect 10 at the 1976 Montreal Olympics made her an enduring symbol of sport and national pride. Sponsored by Banca Transilvania, the collection includes early biographies such as D. Dimitriu’s 1976 volume and Ioan Chirilă’s 1977 work “Nadia,” as well as later memoirs, children’s stories, a prize‑winning novel, and investigative publications based on secret‑service archives.
The books illustrate how different eras have portrayed Comăneci—from a child‑wonder and communist icon to a universal champion and cultural figure—offering insight into Romania’s social and political history through the lens of her athletic achievements.
