Nafpaktos commemorates 455th anniversary of Battle of Lepanto
The Municipality of Nafpaktia held commemorative events to mark the 455th anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto, which took place in 1571. The centerpiece of the celebration was a reenactment held at the Venetian Harbor on Saturday, October 10.
This year's production integrated traditional drama and music with modern digital technology, including animation and video mapping projected onto the surfaces of the Venetian fortifications. The performance featured acrobats and dancers to convey the intensity and drama of the historical conflict.
The event drew international media attention, with coverage from the South Korean network KBS and the Spanish news agency EFE. The commemorations conclude on Sunday, October 11, with religious services at the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Demetrios, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Venetian Harbor, and the opening of a historical exhibition titled ‘NAFPAKTO: Siege and Liberation’.
