Nafpaktos Venetian Port restoration project completed

The restoration and maintenance of significant sections of the Venetian Port of Nafpaktos have been completed. The project, overseen by the Ministry of Culture, aimed to address severe damage caused by long-term exposure to the marine environment and to restore structural elements that had degraded.

The works focused on the walls and the quay, including soil improvement, seabed cleaning and sanitization, new pointing, the application of mortars, and the replacement of broken stones. The project also reinforced the structural integrity of the constructions and restored the functionality of the port infrastructure while preserving its authentic morphological and construction characteristics.

With a total budget of approximately 1,874,984 euros, the project was implemented by the Directorate for the Restoration of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments. Funding was provided through the Recovery and Resilience Fund and the Ministry of Culture’s Public Investment Program. Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni stated that the restoration is a project of special historical and cultural significance, serving as a pillar for culture, tourism, and sustainable development for the local community.
