Nafpaktos Venetian Port restoration
Overview
The Greek Ministry of Culture has completed the restoration, maintenance, and stabilization of the Venetian Port in Nafpaktos. The project, which cost approximately 1,874,984 euros, was funded through the Recovery and Resilience Fund and the Ministry of Culture’s Public Investment Program.
Technical works focused on the walls and quay, involving seabed cleaning, soil improvement, and the replacement of broken stones to address damage from the marine environment. The initiative aimed to reinforce structural integrity while preserving the site’s authentic morphological characteristics.
To mark the completion, Culture Minister Lina Mendoni officially handed the restored port over to the local community. The event included a live broadcast by ERT3 featuring a concert by the National Symphony Orchestra of ERT. Minister Mendoni noted that the restoration is of “special historical and cultural significance,” serving as a pillar for tourism and sustainable development in the Aetolia-Acarnania region.
