Nagaland and Odisha update electoral rolls following intensive revision
Multiple Indian states have concluded Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercises to update their electoral rolls, resulting in significant changes to voter counts.
In Nagaland, the draft electoral roll has been published following an enumeration phase that identified over 1.5 lakh electors for exclusion. Reasons for these omissions include deceased individuals, duplicate entries, and electors who have permanently shifted or are absent. Notably, the draft roll shows female electors outnumbering males for the first time when including service electors. Eligible citizens can submit claims and objections for inclusion until October 20.
In Odisha, the final electoral roll has been published with a total of 3,16,32,754 electors. The revision process led to the removal of over 20 lakh names due to various discrepancies, including deaths, permanent shifts, and logical errors in entries. The final count represents a net addition of approximately 2.45 lakh electors compared to the draft roll. Authorities have distributed copies of the final list to recognized political parties to ensure transparency.
