Electoral roll revisions in Nagaland and Odisha

Overview

Following Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercises, Nagaland and Odisha have updated their electoral rolls. In Nagaland, the publication of the draft roll identified over 1.5 lakh electors for exclusion due to death, duplication, or permanent relocation. Notably, the draft roll indicated that female electors outnumber males for the first time when service electors are included.

In Odisha, the final electoral roll was published with 3,16,32,754 electors, following the removal of over 20 lakh names due to discrepancies and logical errors. This resulted in a net addition of approximately 2.45 lakh electors compared to the draft roll.

In response to the revision process, Nagaland launched a special drive across all assembly constituencies to ensure all eligible citizens are enrolled. This initiative, coordinated with the Election Commission of India, focuses on the claims-and-objections phase. Officials noted that approximately 500,000 electors may receive notices regarding discrepancies, and 157,752 electors have been categorized as ‘Absent, Shifted, Dead, or Duplicate’ (ASDD).
