Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll campaigning intensifies
Campaigning has intensified for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll scheduled for October 6. Major political parties, including the BJP, Congress, and AIUDF, are increasing grassroots outreach and public meetings across the constituency.
The BJP has fielded Devasish Sharma, a former district commissioner, who is focusing his campaign on minority-dominated areas to attract religious minority voters. The party has announced 40 star campaigners, including Union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita.
Congress is campaigning with candidate Sibamoni Bora, a former MLA. The party has also named 40 star campaigners, such as Kanhaiya Kumar and Pawan Khera, and plans a major meeting in Samaguri featuring Bhupesh Baghel. Reports of potential poll-related violence surfaced recently, including an alleged attack on a Congress poll office in Larirmukh.
In contrast, the AIUDF is fielding veteran leader and former MP Badruddin Ajmal. Other contenders include the Trinamool Congress candidate Abdul Salam and RCPI (RB) candidate Inamul Huda.
