Nagoya post office bear spray accident injures five

An anti‑bear spray canister discharged accidentally inside the Nagoya city‑centre post office, causing eight people to feel sick and five to be taken to hospital for irritation from the capsaicin‑based repellent. Fire‑department official Ryohei Asano said there were no serious injuries.

Police arrested 22‑year‑old Vietnamese national Huynh Nhat Duy on suspicion of obstruction of business after he admitted the unintentional discharge. The incident occurs amid a recent surge in bear attacks across Japan, prompting authorities to install monitoring cameras in northern mountainous regions and a rise in public demand for bear‑spray products.
