Nahdlatul Ulama elects new PBNU leadership at 35th Muktamar

The 35th Muktamar of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) held at the Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang has resulted in the election of Gus Kikin as the new leader of the PBNU. Following the leadership change, local figures such as Eka Susanti Zakki, head of LAZISNU Jombang, expressed hopes that the new leadership will return the organization to its original struggle principles (khittah), strengthen community services, and maintain organizational independence.

During the Muktamar, President Prabowo Subianto officially received a Nahdlatul Ulama membership card (KTA). Political observer AS Hikam noted the uniqueness of this event, stating that aside from the late Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), Prabowo is the only other Indonesian president to officially accept an NU membership card. Hikam suggested the gesture could be interpreted as the government's desire to build closer ties with the organization, noting that Prabowo had previously expressed a personal interest in becoming a member.
