Nahdlatul Ulama Muktamar faces logistical and leadership concerns

Preparations for the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Muktamar, scheduled for August 27-31, 2026, in Jombang, East Java, are facing internal friction and logistical concerns. Several regional and branch boards (PWNU and PCNU) have reported that they have not yet received official invitations, causing anxiety regarding travel arrangements and administrative coordination, particularly for those traveling from outside Java.

Amidst the lack of formal invitations, some officials report being pressured by individuals claiming to represent the Muktamar committee to submit names for the Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi (AHWA), the organization's highest voting body. This has led to suspicions regarding the transparency of the process.

Leadership concerns have also surfaced, with Prof. Dr. KH. Asep Saifuddin Chalim criticizing recent organizational dynamics, suggesting that the group has been influenced by individuals acting on personal interests rather than core values.

In response to the upcoming large-scale event, the Jombang Police (Polres Jombang) have begun coordinating security strategies with the TNI, Banser, and local committees to ensure the assembly remains safe and orderly.
