Nahdlatul Ulama elects Gus Kikin as PBNU Chairman at 35th Muktamar
The 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Muktamar, held at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java, concluded with the election of new leadership. KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, widely known as Gus Kikin, was elected as the General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU) for the 2026-2031 term. His selection was finalized through the Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi (AHWA) consensus mechanism. KH Miftachul Akhyar was re-elected as the Rais Aam (Supreme Leader) of PBNU for the same period.
During the closing ceremony, President Prabowo Subianto attended the event and received a lifetime membership card to Nahdlatul Ulama. In his address, President Prabowo discussed government economic strategies, specifically targeting the restructuring of state-owned enterprises (BUMN). He reported that the government has already closed 290 unprofitable BUMNs, resulting in estimated savings of 50 trillion rupiah. He announced a target to close at least 700 more unprofitable BUMNs by the end of 2026, aiming to streamline the sector to approximately 250 enterprises.
