Nahdlatul Ulama prepares for 35th Muktamar and leadership election
Preparations are underway for the 35th Muktamar of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the world's largest Islamic organization, which is scheduled to take place in Jombang, East Java. A key focus of the upcoming congress is the election of the General Chairperson of the PBNU.
Several prominent figures have entered the leadership race, including KH Abdussalam Shohib (Gus Salam), a descendant of an NU founder, and KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz (Gus Kikin), the caretaker of Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School. Kiai Marsudi Syuhud has also highlighted the need for adaptive leadership capable of navigating rapid social, technological, and political changes.
In anticipation of the event, the PBNU held a 'Bahtsul Masail' pre-congress forum in Depok to discuss contemporary religious issues, including taxation and social ethics. Meanwhile, local branches such as PCNU Jombang have launched initiatives to ensure mosques and prayer facilities are prepared to welcome the large number of delegates.
