Nahdlatul Ulama pushes governance reforms ahead of 2026 Muktamar

A grassroots forum of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) members in the Jakarta metropolitan area was held at Universitas Terbuka in Tangerang Selatan on 28 June 2026. Participants called for stronger transparency, accountability and professional management of the organization’s central board (PBNU) ahead of the upcoming 2026 Muktamar. Reformer Prof. Ali Muktiyanto said NU members have a moral duty to safeguard the institution, noting that “the board can change, but NU members should not,” and stressed the need for comprehensive financial reporting to enable effective audits.

The following day, Kiai Kampung HRM Khalilur R Abdullah Sahlawiy, known as Gus Lilur, issued a critical note on the language and citation accuracy of official speeches delivered at the Munas‑Konbes meeting in Bangkalan. He highlighted the importance of correct Arabic grammar and proper source attribution, referencing Imam Al‑Ghazali’s *Nasihatul Muluk* and stating, “These writings become part of the historical record for evaluating leadership quality.” Both events illustrate rising scrutiny of PBNU governance by NU’s rank‑and‑file members.
