Nairo Quintana completes final World Championship race for Colombia
Colombian professional cyclist Nairo Quintana completed his final appearance for the Colombian national team at the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal. The 36-year-old, a former Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España champion, was unable to finish the demanding 273.4-kilometer elite men's road race.
During the race, Quintana lost contact with the main group with approximately 96 kilometers remaining and ultimately abandoned the competition. While Quintana did not finish, his teammate Santiago Buitrago was the top-performing Colombian in the event, finishing in 27th place.
Prior to the race, Quintana expressed the emotional significance of the event, noting it marked the end of an era since his first World Championship appearance in 2009. The course in Montreal featured a circuit around Mont-Royal characterized by short, repetitive climbs and significant elevation changes.
