Nairobi: Citizen TV journalist arrested during fuel price protests

Citizen TV reporter Odee Francis was arrested by police in Nairobi’s Central Business District on Tuesday, October 20, while covering protests against rising fuel costs. Video footage shows the reporter being roughed up by plainclothes officers alongside protesters before being placed in a police vehicle. Other journalists attempted to intervene but were unsuccessful.

The protests follow an announcement by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) regarding significant increases in fuel prices. According to EPRA, Super Petrol prices rose by Ksh12.93 per litre, Diesel by Ksh9.90 per litre, and Kerosene by Ksh28.49 per litre. The regulator attributed these adjustments to the increased international landed costs of imported refined petroleum products.
