Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja faces allegations from former official Geoffrey Mosiria

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja is facing a public confrontation following the dismissal of Geoffrey Mosiria, the former Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement, and Customer Service. Mosiria, who previously received national awards for leadership and service delivery, has accused the Governor of administrative intimidation and interference with procurement processes.

In a statement released on X, Mosiria alleged that his removal was retaliatory after he refused to facilitate direct procurement arrangements intended to benefit individuals close to the Governor and specific contractors. He further claimed that his authority was systematically stripped, with his functions transferred to junior officers and his budget drastically reduced. Specifically, Mosiria alleged that the budget under his former Health docket was slashed from Sh1.2 billion to Sh100 million, a reduction of approximately 91.7 per cent.

The dismissal follows Mosiria’s October 2026 declaration that he intends to run for Governor in 2027, positioning him as a political rival to Sakaja. While the official county circular cited the County Governments Act for the reassignment of three chief officers, it did not specify misconduct or underperformance as the cause for Mosiria’s removal.
