Nairobi submits official bid for 2029 World Athletics Championships

Nairobi has formally submitted an official bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. If successful, the Kenyan capital would become the first African city to host the sport’s flagship senior global event.

The Kenyan government has pledged full support for the bid, committing to provide the necessary organizational framework, security measures, and infrastructure required for the championships. Nairobi faces competition from several major cities, including London, Rome, and Munich.

Kenya has a history of hosting significant international athletics competitions, including the 2007 World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, the 2017 World Athletics Under-18 Championships in Nairobi, and the 2021 World Athletics Under-20 Championships. World Athletics is expected to announce the host city for the 2029 edition in September.
