He announced that the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, is undergoing improvements for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and will receive further upgrades to meet global athletics standards for the 2029 championships. The event is expected to host approximately 2,000 athletes from over 200 countries, utilizing venues such as Kasarani Stadium, Nyayo, Ulinzi, and Talanta Sports City.

Prior to the announcement, Munich, Germany, was a prominent contender but has been scheduled to host the championships in 2031. Other unsuccessful bids included London and Rome.
