Namibia advances legislation to regulate construction industry
Namibia is advancing the Construction Industries Bill, which is nearing submission to the Cabinet Committee on Legislation after approximately two decades of consultation and delays. The proposed law aims to establish a National Construction Council to regulate the industry, register contractors, and standardize construction practices.
The legislation seeks to strengthen oversight and increase the participation of local contractors in major infrastructure projects. While industry stakeholders have advocated for dedicated legislation since 2006, the bill has faced concerns regarding registration fees, annual levies, and its potential impact on informal and traditional builders.
