Namibian industrial and regulatory development

Overview

Namibia is advancing legislative and policy measures to strengthen its domestic economy and industrial oversight. The government is moving forward with the Construction Industries Bill, which seeks to establish a National Construction Council to regulate contractors and standardize practices after nearly twenty years of consultation.

In tandem with regulatory efforts, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged local businesses to increase their technical capacities to meet upcoming local-content policies. These policies aim to integrate domestic companies into emerging sectors such as green hydrogen, renewable energy, oil and gas, and rare earth minerals. The government’s strategy, aligned with the Sixth National Development Plan, focuses on economic diversification and value addition to reduce reliance on raw-material exports.
