Nan Province flood monitoring continues ahead of new rainfall
The Thai government is monitoring the flood situation in Nan Province as water levels in several areas begin to stabilize and recede. However, authorities are preparing for a new wave of rainfall expected on August 23, 2026, particularly in the upper Nan River Basin.
The National Water Resources Office (ONWR) predicts accumulated rainfall of approximately 50–70 mm over 24 hours in the upper basin, specifically affecting Pua, Song Khwae, Chiang Klang, and Thung Chang districts. While this volume is not as high as previous heavy rains, officials warned that saturated soil from prior rainfall may reduce absorption capacity, causing water to flow into rivers more rapidly.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana stated that the government is prioritizing early warnings for residents in hillside areas, near waterways, and in low-lying zones. Additionally, districts including Tha Wang Pha, Mueang Nan, Phu Phiang, and Wiang Sa are being monitored for incoming water masses from upstream. Relevant agencies have prepared personnel, equipment, and satellite monitoring via GISTDA to manage the situation.
