Naples advances Scampia regeneration with first 97 new homes

The Municipality of Naples has reached a significant milestone in the ‘Restart Scampia’ urban regeneration project. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi announced that the first 97 new housing units, located in three buildings (Lotto M – A1, A2, and A3), are expected to be delivered between late 2026 and early 2027.

This initiative is one of Italy’s largest public housing regeneration programs, backed by approximately 159 million euros in funding from PNRR, PON Metro, and Periferie funds. The project aims to transform the Scampia district by constructing a total of 509 new apartments, accompanied by schools, social services, green spaces, and improved local infrastructure.

The architectural plan involves the demolition of certain structures while preserving the ‘Vela Celeste’ to serve as a hub for social and cultural activities. The development covers an area of approximately 200,000 square meters and includes a nursery school, a Civic Center, covered markets, and urban gardens. The project has utilized a participatory approach, involving the local ‘Vele’ committee to ensure the new spaces meet the needs of the community.
