Naples allocates nearly €10 million to host 2027 America’s Cup

The Metropolitan City of Naples has approved almost €10 million for the “Verso l’America’s Cup 2027” programme, aiming to turn the 2027 America’s Cup sailing competition into a lasting development engine for the region. The funding will support digital‑connectivity upgrades, visitor‑focused platforms, tourist itineraries, cultural events and the construction of permanent team bases in Bagnoli, following a preliminary regatta in September 2026.

A seventh challenger will join the fleet, raising the total to seven teams. The Louis Vuitton Cup will run in the Gulf of Naples from 22 May to 4 July 2027, with the winner earning the right to race Emirates Team New Zealand for the America’s Cup in July 2027. In an interview, Naples assessor for sport Carlo Puca highlighted the event’s potential to draw large tourist flows to both Naples and nearby Ischia, though no detailed plan for the island was offered.

Local officials see the competition as an opportunity to boost the southern Italian economy, improve infrastructure and raise the international profile of the area.
