Napoli: Father brutally beaten and struck by garbage truck in Vomero

A 50-year-old man was violently assaulted by a group of approximately ten youths in Piazza Vanvitelli, located in the Vomero district of Naples, during the night of October 10-11. The attack reportedly began after the father intervened to defend his two daughters, aged 12 and 16, who were involved in a dispute with other adolescents.

During the assault, the man was surrounded and beaten with punches and kicks. While he was on the ground, he was accidentally struck by a waste collection truck from the municipal company Asia, causing severe injuries to his leg. He was rushed to the Cardarelli hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery to avoid amputation.

Investigators have identified eight individuals involved, most of whom are minors. The incident, which was captured on video and shared by Deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli, has sparked intense debate regarding youth violence and security in Naples' nightlife areas. The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, has announced increased surveillance and patrols in the area to address rising concerns over juvenile delinquency.
