America's Cup build‑up in Naples sees youth sailing trials and anti‑mafia inspections

In preparation for the 2027 America's Cup, which will be hosted in Naples for the first time, a youth sailing event was held at the Centro Sportivo “Pino Daniele” in Caivano. Over 350 children from the Illumina Camp took part in a regatta simulation inside the centre’s pool, where two Optimist boats were propelled by a system of large fans generating artificial wind. The activity was organised by Sport & Salute in collaboration with the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) and involved local clubs, the municipal mayor Antonio Angelino and officials such as Diego Nepi Molineris and Flavio Siniscalchi. Nicola Perrone, director of the centre, said the event demonstrated a “sailing sport for everyone, bringing the sea to a place where there is none.”

At the same time, anti‑mafia authorities carried out inspections at the Bagnoli shipyard, the site of construction work for the 38th America's Cup. Prefect Michele Di Bari ordered the checks, which involved the State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and naval units, to verify the legality of contracts, the presence of any mafia‑linked companies, and compliance with safety regulations. The operation was coordinated by the Naples Anti‑Mafia Investigative Directorate and also included labour and public works inspectors.
