Naples hosts America’s Cup events as Italy appoints new Sports Diplomacy Ambassadors

Naples and the Campania region are hosting a week of institutional, sporting, and cultural events from September 21 to 27 to mark the second Preliminary Regatta of the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup. The program includes the inauguration of a “Sport Illumina” playground in Casalnuovo di Napoli, a new sports hub funded with 31.7 million euros, and the official countdown to the 2027 America’s Cup match race scheduled for July 10, 2027.

In a related development regarding Italy’s international sporting presence, Vice Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani has appointed new Ambassadors of Sports Diplomacy. During the third Italian Sports Day in the World held at the Farnesina, Tajani named several athletes from disciplines including swimming, diving, and athletics to promote the country’s image abroad. This initiative specifically highlights maritime themes and aquatic sports in anticipation of the 2027 America’s Cup in Naples.
